Categories of foot problem

There are many specific foot and ankle problems.

However, the generally fall into one of the following categories:

  • Foot traumas (injuries)
  • Stresses and pressures resulting from improper footwear
  • Inherited conditions that affect the feet
  • Conditions caused by bacterial, viral, or fungal infections
  • Arthritic foot problems, often involving one or more joint
  • Neoplastic disorders (usually called tumours, which may be benign or malignant)
